Golden week at Maths club

This week, our special rectangle was the golden rectangle. If a square is removed from the rectangle, the remaining piece is also a golden rectangle, and we found out that the long length divided by the short length gave a particular value. Our tricky question was to ask why the answers got less accurate as the rectangles got smaller and smaller. We used the rectangle to draw a golden spiral using compasses. Homework was to Google search “Golden rectangle” and see how it crops up in art and architecture.
