Mathsclub working with calendars

2016 is a triangle number – and the children at Mathsclub and at Y6 pupils at Cransley school can tell you why!

2016 = 1+2+3+ … +63 and so 2016 dots can be arranged in a triangle shape with 63 rows of dots, each one more than the last.

2016 = 1/2 x 63 x 64 which means two triangles of 2016 dots can be put side by side to make a rectangle 63 by 64 dots

2016 is also the number of handshakes when everyone at a party with 64 guests shakes hands with everyone else!

Happy 2016
